In Loving Memory… Jan 11th 2002 to Nov 21st 2011

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart, that we write this update. Blake made his way up to heaven on Monday morning, November 21, 2011. He passed peacefully, with his family by his side after a very long and courageous fight. Blake was nine years old and although his time on earth was far too short, we take solace in knowing that he is now in a better place. There are so many of you, who throughout this battle have helped to support Blake, the family and our foundation. We wish that we could reach out to each one of you individually, as you all have given so much, touching our hearts and Blake’s. Your tireless efforts helped to give Blake and children like him a fighting chance. The humanity, kindness and compassion that so many of you displayed throughout this journey will never be forgotten. Please know that our mission is not over, even though Blake’s time on earth has passed. We hope that you will continue to follow us as we carry on his legacy through this foundation, as now, we fight to save other families from this diseases devastating effects. Thank you again for all of your support to Blake throughout the years. His little life inspired so many of us and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to know such a wonderful individual. End of Summer

Haven’t blogged in a while cause things have been pretty quiet for Blake. His muscles seem to be getting more difficult to control and he still is a skinny little boy. Due to this he suffered a left shoulder fracture making it more difficult to position him. He is all healed now and we are looking into getting him more supplements for bone density as we are told this is common with children who are immobile and essentially lose muscle tone. He is still out on summer break and is quiet. I think he really likes school and the chaos of everything around him there which livens him up a bit. So we are anxiously awaiting the first day of school.

Quiet Times

Haven’t blogged in a few weeks because things have been really quiet with Blake. He hasn’t shown alot of emotion but still remains stable. Then last week he surprised us all with tons of smiles and full blown laughter. Just when we think he is fading away, he surprises us with this sudden joy for life. We have his brother Sam’s 5th birthday party this Friday so hopefully I will get some good family pictures. Jeremy and I met with Dr. Asaikar yesterday and we addressed our concern on his myoclonic jerks. There is a new medication in Canada in which he gave us a prescription for which we will try out to see if it works better than the clonopan. Will keep everyone posted.

Birthday Month

We celebrated Blake’s 9th Birthday on January 11th with some close family and friends. The day was a good one as Blake appeared happy and glad to be around everyone. It is just such a bittersweet moment. I sometimes find myself thinking and hoping that it won’t be the last. Today we celebrated Blake’s baby sister Talia’s 3rd birthday. He wasn’t happy today and seemed like something was bothering him. He still struggles with stomach issues and when he has a bad night it seems to carry on through the next day. With that being said we seem to go through these days and sometimes weeks feeling so down and then Blake seems to surprise us all. I love my sweet Blakey.

Christmas is approaching

Sorry for the delayed post but life has been quickly passing by but I must say Blake never ceases to amaze me. He has been happy and cognitively aware in school and at home. He really enjoys his siblings and the sounds of Xmas music. On a sad note, a friend of Blakes at school passed away last Thursday. Thomas will be thought of and missed by many.

Just wanted to update that Blake has seemed extra happy these last couple weeks. Alert and awake and tried his hardest to cooperate for the Blake’s Purpose video we did last week for the upcoming golf tournament. I really think he loves hearing his brother and sister play/argue or whatever is it they do and smiles when Talia kisses him all over.

Back to School – 2nd Grade

Blake has had a good first week back to school. He will still be with the same teachers whom he knows and loves. After school he loves to go on his evening walks with Mark. He has had a lot of smiles this week and has got to spend the entire week with his sister Talia. Talia has been loving her big brother – she loves to give Blakie kisses. I will try to capture some more pictures in the next few weeks.

Blake has had a pretty good summer and has been relatively happy with no issues which is good news. I love how he can still captivate the room with that adorable smile of his. He goes back to school next Tuesday so really excited for him to get back into his normal routine.

Blake finished summer school last week and now has 5 weeks off before starting 2nd grade. I really wish he didn’t have to go so long without school because he loves the routine and being around all of his teachers and friends at school. Tonight Blake came over and we got to have time to just hug on him and love him. I love all the smiles he gave me.
